Christmas market in Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf in the run-up to Christmas – the air is filled with the scent of roasted almonds and hot mulled wine. Many visitors have been coming to Düsseldorf for years to buy gifts for their loved ones and visit the Christmas market. Because here, everything is just one mug of mulled wine away.
seven unique Christmas markets
Our splendid Christmas world is far more than just a Christmas market. We have a line-up of seven markets, all with different themes. When you take a stroll through the markets you will be astonished again and again by the imaginative designs of the huts and the huge variety of goods on offer. What makes the Düsseldorf Christmas world so different from others is the variety – one Christmas world, but seven individual markets.
Within one kilometre, you can stroll from one themed market to the next, enjoying a heavenly display of twinkling lights. As you wander around, you are sure to find all those last-minute Christmas gifts you’ve been looking for. This year the Christmas experience begins on 21 November and ends on 30 December 2019 which means the wonderfully festive charm of the seven markets can also be enjoyed after Christmas.

There’s a very special photo opportunity at the Handwerker-Markt (Artisan Market) in front of the venerable and historic Rathaus (city hall). Visitors will have five chances over Christmas to take unique photos in the Snow Globe. No matter whether it’s family or friends, new lovers, or couples who have been married for years, anybody can have their photo taken in this winter wonderland. Afterwards the photos can be sent as a Christmas greeting from Düsseldorf to friends and family all over the world, or posted with the hashtag #merryDUSxmas.
Central, and within walking distance of all the city centre shopping streets, there’s one very special winter highlight: the ice skating rink. You’ll find this winter wonderland on Corneliusplatz at the end of Königsallee with a view of the Kö-Bogen – idyllically located between the Engelchen-Markt and the MärchenMarkt. If you want to ice-skate against a breathtaking backdrop, you’ll find an absolutely world-class setting here. Probably unique: The ice skating rink is set up around the historical tiered fountain on Corneliusplatz. There are various stalls selling tasty treats and mulled wine, while visitors can enjoy an Altbier and the party mood at the Füchschen-Alm gastropub.
The “Wheel of Vision” is located just a stone’s throw from the romantic Handwerker-Markt on Burgplatz. The 42 pods offer a magnificent view of the three Düsseldorf Rhine bridges and the festively illuminated city centre.
