Interview with mad_c1

Would you like to tell us a few sentences about yourself by way of introduction? What is your name? Where are you from and what do you do?
MadC, citizen of the world, born in Germany and I work on canvas, facade, but also interdisciplinary - digital, action, sculpture etc..

How does your work for "out there" differ from the work you do for galleries and other interior spaces?
I work with the environment of the façade and intentionally create tensions between architecture and the environment.

What motivates you to create art in urban space and to exhibit your works in public space?
One and the same work of art unfolds a completely different effect in every size. You can only achieve this huge dimension in this way.

Art in urban spaces is ephemeral and often only visible for a short time. How is that appealing to you?
It's just part of it. Since my path emerged from graffiti culture, it was part of the creative process from the very beginning: you never stop, there's always the next project, the next facade - there's no resting.

In street/urban art exhibitions, it is often an important point for artists to successfully transfer the feeling of the street into a closed gallery space. In your opinion, is that absolutely necessary?
I don't think so. A lot of inspiration comes from the street, but you don't necessarily have to see it visually in your work. Every challenge is good for the development as an artist, no matter in which space.

Many artists work with a pseudonym instead of their real name. What does your chosen name mean to you?
In the meantime, my name is no longer important to me. It doesn't define me - but for others it is important to give a name to people and their actions.

Where do you get your inspiration?
From everywhere. If you always allow new things into your life, you can't help but be inspired.

What makes a perfect place for your works in the city? How important is the interaction of environment and motif for you?
A place that surprises or a place that desperately needs color.

One last question about your work: What do you want your art to trigger in the viewer?
That is in no way at my discretion. Every person has different experiences and therefore sees different things in my work. Especially with abstract art, the viewer is allowed to make up his own mind.
