Mike Litt in conversation with Julika Bosch

How's it going, Düsseldorf?

Our podcast "Alle Rhein" is our platform for all those who ensure that you are almost constantly surrounded by culture in Düsseldorf - whether on a small or large scale. Our host Mike Litt talks to his guests about the most exciting projects and, along the way, clarifies what artists, organizers and other creatives love about their city and: where they prefer to be in their private lives.
In episode 36, Mike talks to Julika Bosch, director of the Philara Collection.

Almost hidden in a backyard among all the galleries on Birkenstraße in Flingern, the Philara Collection is more than a gem of local cultural life, if only because of its spatial size. Hidden in an inconspicuous backyard, a former industrial wasteland, is a Düsseldorf art treasure: a 1700 square meter private museum with impressive architecture. But it is not only a place of art, but also a place to meet and celebrate.

In the former glass factory, visitors, for a voluntary and self-chosen entrance fee, will experience an experience that is currently "breathtaking" and intoxicating with its colors. "Breathing Water, Drinking Air" is the name of the show, which is open again after a short fall break and will present two additional rooms starting in November.

With which approach the collector Gil Bronner shows art there, how she herself took over the management and feels just as comfortable there as in the city of Düsseldorf in general, director Julika Bosch tells in this exciting episode of "Alle Rhein!". The art historian, who grew up in Düsseldorf, studied general and comparative literature, communication studies, art history, and modern and contemporary art history in Bochum and Istanbul. Most recently, she worked as curator and acting head of the artistic department (together with Lea Altner) at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover.

Our host

Mike Litt was born in the US state of Virginia and lived in Bochum for many years. The globetrotter usually works in Cologne but lives with his family in the beautiful Düsseltal district of Düsseldorf. He is a radio presenter (1Live, WDR 2, DLF Nova), a DJ with Mayday festival experience and an author (‘The loneliest DJ in the world’). For our podcast, he holds fascinating conversations with other people from Düsseldorf’s cultural scene.
