If you want to meet the historical greats of the city face to face, you should visit the city museum in the Palais Spee.

Here you will find a selection of impressive portraits of those rulers who had a decisive influence on Düsseldorf's history. These include the portrait of Duke Wilhelm the Rich painted on oak wood from the late 16th century and that of Elector Jan Wellem in opulent decorative armor from the early 18th century. However, these are only two highlights of the city and state history archive in Düsseldorf's Carlstadt district. In fact, the spectrum ranges from Stone Age finds to paintings of the 21st century.
