Six perfect sundowner locations

Six perfect sundowner locations

We show you where you should spend the sunset

Summer is here, and with it the question of where to meet for a sundowner. Thanks to the spectacular location on the Rhine, there are plenty of options in Düsseldorf. To help you decide, we have made a small selection for you. Maybe you'll find one or two surprises among them.

Three Little Birds

Like a ship's bow, the terrace shaded by large plane trees juts out toward the Rhine. The location is already proven, but now, with a new concept, even more attractive. Behind it are the Düsseldorf magician Yuta Maruyama and organizer Fabian Veldmann, together with gastro expert Carla Stockheim. And she is already making further plans: picnic baskets filled with delicacies are to be taken to the adjacent Rhine meadows in the future.

Bar Olio

Olio is an institution. Even before the adjacent residential district Le Flair and the cool 25hours Hotel were built here, Annette Gross and Roman Jasper were already serving excellent cuisine in the quaint former DB canteen and on its cobblestone forecourt. One sits, quite understatement, on small wooden chairs and can be cooked or simply approves a Riesling. There's no cooler way to welcome the end of the day.

City beach Theodor Heuss Bridge

City beach. The very word sounds like relaxation and refreshment. In fact, Düsseldorf has three designated city beaches with sun loungers, umbrellas and culinary offerings - in addition to the numerous nameless sandy bays on both sides of the Rhine. The northernmost Düsseldorf city beach on Robert-Lehr-Ufer is particularly beautiful. You relax on cushions, armchairs and loungers, enjoy healthy and vegan food from the 'Strandhasen', drink a beer or a glass of wine and watch in complete relaxation as the sun sinks into the Rhine behind the Theodor Heuss Bridge.

Hitchcoq

Craft beer, natural wine, plus a juicy chicken. These are the ingredients recommended for the end of the day at Hitchcoq on North Street. In a pretty backyard, fans of the house sit on wooden benches with a freshly tapped 'ALTfred' on tap in hand. It's accompanied by roasted poultry from Borgmeier. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside.

Tonhalle Terrace

The Tonhalle at your back, the Oberkassel Bridge in view. Culture and architecture lovers have a special soft spot for this location. The reason: you feel part of the wonderful architectural ensemble designed by Wilhelm Kreis, who built the Tonhalle and the adjacent Ehrenhof almost 100 years ago. Beer lovers, however, are just as likely to be picked up on the high steps: The Altbier comes from the cult brewery Uerige.

Key on Bolker Street

If you turn into the leafy courtyard opposite the Schlüsselbrauerei from the bustling old town street, Bolkerstrasse, you will find yourself in the shadow of the small baroque Neanderkirche church. A small oasis is this relaxed home brewery beer garden in the middle of the center.
