    Description
    Museen mal anders

The theme of this year’s “Night of Museums” in Düsseldorf is “Art, Culture and Le Tour”. Alongside the nocturnal opening hours of around 40 participating museums, galleries and off-spaces and the side programme of concerts, performances, readings, films and culinary offerings, activities relating to the start of the Tour de France will be one of the event’s highlight features.

100 days before the “Grand Départ” on 1 July in Düsseldorf the culture scene will be warming up for the themes of “France & The Bicycle”: the postPOST-Hallen will be transformed into a gigantic bicycle flea market, while the Institut français will be providing people with a better understanding of the French language. Customers will be able to step on the pedals themselves at Metzgerei Schnitzel e.V. and those who fancy it can turn themselves into artists with Norbert Krause’s “Radldruckmaschine” (bicycle printer). The wheels are turning at the Hetjens – German Ceramics Museum as well: guided tours, workshops around the topic of “the bicycle” and the performance “100 days – 100 cups” will whet visitors’ appetite for the start of the Tour.

Apart from the classic museums which are showing works by artists ranging from Otto Dix to Peter Lindbergh, there will be some new discoveries to be made this year as well. With “Reflecting 21”, being staged on the 21st floor of the former Mannesmann high-rise, the Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster is showing time-based art from the Rhineland. The Christuskirche will also become an art venue when this sacred space is filled with heavenly guided tours, ambient sounds and light installations. The Düsseldorf Puppet Theatre will be offering an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes: visitors will be able to watch the puppeteers at work and see how they breathe life into their marionettes.

In terms of music, virtually every genre will be heard from classical at the Heinrich Heine Institute to gospel at Maxhaus to garage rock at the Polish Institute. Art and funky tunes will be served up at hotel friends, while those who prefer something a little quieter can party with headphones at the “silent disco” at reinraum e.V.

Tickets for the “Night of Museums” cost 14 euros and are also valid for use on the shuttle buses. Free admission for Art:card holders. To find out more call +49 211 89 99 555 or go to www.nacht-der-museen.de.
