Ando was a miner and warehouseman until he became self-employed and brought the taste of raw fish with sour rice to the German public. He opened his first restaurant in the Schadow Arcades in 1995, when sushi was still considered exotic. And not least because of Maruyasu, this has not changed: The family now runs a good dozen restaurants in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt, including one in Immermannstraße, as well as in Luegallee in Oberkassel and MedienHafen.
