Biggest fun fair on the Rhine

15–24 July 2016
Dating back 700 years and still going strong, Düsseldorf’s St. Sebastianus shooting club boasts more than 1,500 members. With the biggest fun fair on the Rhine the club will be celebrating the day of its patron saint, St. Apollinaris (23 July). As part of the event, the “Historic Procession” on 17 July is a spectacle to behold, as more than 3,000 uniformed shooters, marching bands, teams of horses and carriages wind their way through the streets in what is one of Germany’s largest parades.

For no less than the 115th time, the big funfair city will be erected in 2016 on its traditional, picturesque site, on the Oberkassel Rheinwiesen. These meadows, which have an area of 165,000 sqm, will provide space for stallholders from both Germany and abroad, and a wide range of rides, guaranteeing fun for all the family.

Other high points will be the fireworks displays on the first and last Fridays of the fair (15 and 22 July 2016). As in the past, the rides this year include both classics and some spectacular innovations: reaching a height of 65 metres, “Infinity” – the world’s highest mobile looping carousel – is an absolute must for adrenaline junkies. The new “Apollo 13” ride can also be classed as hair-raising, catapulting its passengers 55 metres into the sky at speeds of up to 120 km/h.

An attraction that is unique worldwide and brand-new this year is the tennis court at the “biggest funfair on the Rhine”. Visitors can look forward here to a lively programme with tennis activities for children, court times for tennis players, and entertaining highlights on centre court.
