The hospital Marienkrankenhaus Kaiserswerth also works in this field. For instance, joint and tendon injuries are treated in the Sport Orthopaedics Clinic and, depending on the indication, artificial joints are implanted. A special feature of St. Vinzenz Hospital is its endoprosthetics centre, providing maximum care with its comprehensive offer for supporting patients with joint complaints. The hospital has its own pain therapy centre, where chronic pain suffering is treated. Together with this centre the esteemed clinic for spine and pain treats degenerative diseases, tumours and traumas of the spine (fractures) including paraplegias.

The Marien Hospital Düsseldorf is the main centre for treating tumours in the VKKD. Here different types of specialists treat patients with all different types of tumours at the interdisciplinary oncological centre. The centrepiece of the therapy options is the state-of-the-art clinic for radiation therapy, which treats patients in accordance with the standards of the world’s leading tumour centres. Furthermore, the centre for internal medicine and the institute for diagnostics and interventional radiology, general, visceral and minimally invasive surgery, urology and senology and breast surgery in addition to gynaecology in organ-related centres work together through interdisciplinary cooperation to treat specific tumour diseases in all different parts of the body. Psychosomatic disorders and anxiety disorders are also treated in a day clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy.

The West German Diabetes and Health Centre (WDGZ) looks after both outpatients and inpatients. The main focus is on the treatment and also early diagnosis and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, such as diabetes mellitus type 2, high blood pressure or dyslipidemia. In addition to outpatient and inpatient care for patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, a comprehensive outpatient preventive programme is offered for preventing cardiovascular diseases. This not only involves performing scientifically accepted analyses (blood and urine tests as well as various different ultrasonography and stress tests). All results are explained in detail to the patients, and therapies are proposed. A complete health check is generally completed after 2 hours. If there are indications of illness, further tests are offered in the VKKD’s other clinics.

The St. Mauritius Therapy Clinic in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf offers inpatient rehabilitation in Germany’s biggest conurbation, not far from the living environment of the affected patients. Scientifically-based therapy offers are provided for patients from all age groups, from infants to elderly persons. Experience has shown that this close coexistence of several generations has a clear therapeutic advantage. Effective rehabilitation is made considerably easier if it is possible to also create a living environment tailored to the requirements of the people in the clinic. This involves humane clinic architecture and a patient-oriented basic attitude of all staff. The institute also has one of Germany’s most modern clinics for child rehabilitation (neuropaediatrics) with its own paediatric clinic, which enables parents to accompany children there with their therapies.
