If you would like to meet the historical greats of the city eye to eye, then you should visit the city museum in the Palais Spee. Here you will find a selection of impressive portraits of those rulers who decisively shaped the history of Düsseldorf.
Among them is the oak-painted portrait of Duke William the Rich from the late 16th century and that of the Elector Jan Wellem in opulent jewellery from the early 18th century. But these are just two highlights of the city and historical archives in the Düsseldorf Carlstadt. In fact, the spectrum ranges from Stone Age finds to paintings of the 21st century.
