The origin remains uncertain, but evidence of this Düsseldorf custom can still today be found in many places in the city. Also on the Burgplatz, where since 1954 the Radschläger fountain has stood. The two cartwheeling boys made of bronze were made by the sculptor Alfred Zschorsch. The inscription in Düsseldorfer Platt dialect “Radschläger wolle mer blieve, as jeck et de Minschen och drieve” means: We want to be Radschläger (cartwheelers), no matter how crazy it drives people. Incidentally, Thomas Geisel, the current Lord Mayor, also masters this sport.
