The Düsseldorf art scene enjoys international recognition, not least thanks to the local Kunstakademie (Art academy).
There are countless big names among the tutors as well as among the students: from Bernd and Hilla Becher to Andreas Gursky, Joseph Beuys to Tony Cragg. Preserving and cultivating this heritage is the goal of the Academy Gallery founded in 2005. As a forum of the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie (Art academy), it mainly exhibits the works of its professors. In the rooms of the former School of Applied Arts on the Burgplatz there are two exhibitions a year. In addition, it is dedicated to the systematic collection of works of the Kunstakademie teachers and successful students.
