Ranging between the Altstadt (Old Town) and the Ehrenhof, the tour provides exciting insights into how Düsseldorf became an art city, and entertaining facts spanning three hundred years: about the Elector Jan Wellem and his art-loving Medici spouse; about the artists who made the Kunstakademie famous throughout the world; about Vincent van Gogh’s love of Düsseldorf mustard; or about the fantastic support provided to artists by art dealer Johanna Ey, who was known as “Mother Ey”. You will learn what America’s “national painting” has to do with the Rhine metropolis, discover exciting details about Joseph Beuys’s life, and get an overview of the latest projects by Düsseldorf artists which are attracting international attention. The tour takes in the flagships of the museum scene: the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, the Museum Kunstpalast, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
