The Stadtsparkasse Cartwheeling Tournament has been taking place each year in Düsseldorf since 1937. The competition is to be held again on the Untere Rheinwerft in June 2012. The custom of cartwheeling goes back to the year 1288 when Düsseldorf was granted its city charter following the Battle of Worringen and the children turned cartwheels for joy. To this day, you can still meet these little  cartwheelers in the Old Town and the Königsallee where they perform their skills from just "eene Penning" ("one penny").
