Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW

On 2 June, Düsseldorf, the traditional stronghold of Japanese business in Europe, is expecting several hundreds of thousands of visitors from near and far. The festival is being prepared with intensive input from Düsseldorf’s Japanese community. The city is home to around 7,000 Japanese nationals.
Before the day culminates in a magical fireworks display at night, Düsseldorf will be transformed for the day into “Japan on the Rhine”. Specialities such as sushi, sashimi or tempura will fortify visitors as delicious snacks. Athletic presentations, numerous information stands and hands-on experiences of Japanese culture along with a large area for Manga fans will make for a varied and diverse programme.
The programme will start at 1 a.m. on the main stage at Burgplatz. Rousing Taiko drum sounds and a musical top act from Japan on the main stage always form the musical highlights of the day. At around 23:00, visitors can enjoy a Japanese fireworks display created by Japanese pyrotechnicians specially for this day.
