In the footsteps of Jan Wellem

This historical walk through the city visits stations from the life of Johann Wilhelm of Palatinate-Neuburg, referred to in Düsseldorf affectionately for short as “Jan Wellem”, between the place of his birth, the castle at Burgplatz, and his last resting place in of St. Andreas. It recounts tales and legends and relates fascinating stories from those days.

Under Jan Wellem and his second wife, Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, Düsseldorf experienced an economic and cultural heyday. Today the popular baroque prince is represented mainly through the equestrian statue of him by Gabriel de Grupello in Düsseldorf’s Marktplatz.
