In the 2009/10 winter term, the Design Department / Fashion and Communication Academy in Düsseldorf for the first time took up teaching in the renovated facilities of the Old Oberbilk Factory, a brick building erected in 1900. Since October 2009, fifty students have been completing their training in fashion and communication here.

Appropriate training for today‘s fashion industry no longer ends with the product alone. Effective presentation, visual communication and marketing strategies are now as important as an internationally oriented design philosophy. To pave this way even while in training, the private academy enables contact with well-known representatives from the fashion and design industries early on. The Design Department regularly organises project weeks for which it calls guest lecturers from major European fashion metropolises who are successfully established in the market, have built up an impressive network, and are also well versed in teaching at international academies and universities.

Applicants will need a German or international higher education admission qualification (German Abitur – final secondary school certificate/vocational diploma) along with an artistic portfolio. Where artistic skills are particularly advanced, acceptance may be granted even without ‘Abitur’. Course offers are geared to individuals interested in working in fashion design and seeking comprehensive understanding and appreciation of fashion and related fields of communication.
